Satellite Must Descend Again

I watched as it fell back to the planet.

I knew then that I was going to miss my wedding.

I was happy for my friend and I knew that she would be back on her feet by the time of my wedding but my heart was heavy as I watched her struggles to get back into the airship.

She wasn't going to make it.

Just like my daddy told me in a dream, she was going to die.

I took a deep breath and remembered that there was still one person that needed to know the truth.

I threw on a gray shirt and slipped my feet into my brown shoes.

I threw a cap on my head and ran out of my house.

I didn't know if I was going to make it before the people began to question the stranger.

I started to run.

I wanted to find my daddy before he left the town.

I knew that if he left, they would be suspicious of the strange, tall, and unusually thin man with the wild eyes.

I looked at the girl that I loved with all my heart.

She looked at me with the same pitiful look in her eyes that I had given to her so many times.

"I'll be back."

I mouthed.

I ran to the road and caught the wayfarer before he could leave the town.

I was relieved to see him again and I began to explain everything.

"This is Cid.

He saved my life.

He is my... my..."

"I'm your brother.

I've been searching for you my whole life."

He said.

I didn't understand how I could be related to a man that I had never met.

The only way that I could get home was if my father left the town.

If he left without me, then the people would most likely question why he would leave a boy behind like I was.

I looked at the stranger.

I wanted to know the truth.

I was mad at my father for leaving me.

I wanted to know why he had left me.

Why he hadn't told me the truth.

The wayfarer looked at me.

He understood and explained everything to me.

"Your father saved me from drowning in a bog in France when he was a child.

Since he didn't have money to pay a doctor, he wrapped me in his coat, took me home, and tended me until the fever went away."

He said.

"He wasn't supposed to tell anyone.

The military had my family's history.

They didn't want to be responsible for an army of what he called 'dragonkin'.

We are your family, he said.

We are your family.

You're my only brother."

The wayfarer explained.

"You're dead!

My father is dead and my best friend is a dragonkin!"

I exclaimed as tears ran down my face.

The stranger took me in his arms.

He embraced me tightly.

I didn't want him to let go.

I was scared but I didn't care anymore.

I just wanted my father and Cid back.

I reached out for the wayfarer's hand and clasped it with mine.

I squeezed it tight and he sighed.

We held hands as we slowly walked back to my house.

When we arrived, I knew that the people were curious.

They just didn't know what to believe.

Everyone stared at the stranger who was just an illusion of my brother and best friend.

"Why is he here?

How is he real?"

One man asked.

I watched the wayfarer react to the man's question.

He pushed him aside.

"Don't listen to him!

Your father is alive.

Don't believe him.

He is trying to trick you."

The man screamed.

I didn't want to believe the people anymore.

I knew that they didn't understand that he was my brother.

"He is not!"

I insisted.

I saw the way that the strangers eyes glowed and his jaw clenched.

He had the same eyes that my father had.

I looked at the wayfarer.

His whole body tensed.

I could tell that he was about to attack the man.

"Let go of me.

He's my... my brother."

I begged the man.

He stared at me in disbelief and backed up.

I looked back at the stranger.

The words had hit him hard.

His whole body trembled as he continued to stare at me.

It was then that I understood.

I understood everything.

I knew that he wasn't my brother.

He was my brother.

He was my only brother.

I had been lied to my whole life.

He smiled at me and I knew that everything would be okay
