Here is how you can put things together to get a nice effect.

Create a color gradient with colors in the gradient map tool that you will use for the overlay

Remove the mask for the shape of the eye

Edit the gradient to remove the circle at the middle

Create a black layer
Add a circle (save as a mask) that will cover the eye shape. This will be your eye

Alright!! Now you know how to do a quick and simple technique to make yourself a nice surprise for your clients. The tradeoff of a pixel perfect result for speed is pretty damn tempting, isn’t it? I guess some of you might think that this is cheating or that Photoshop “only” allows you to do this.

Well it’s true. Photoshop doesn’t have some magic brush to quickly paint a nice expression. You have to work with Photoshop, but I will show you a quick and effective method.

The easiest way to get a good result is with a traditional outline (a shape that wraps around and covers the whole face). But since a pixel perfect face is not always possible (I mean how many times do you see the perfect face on the models’ face), you have to compensate. The purpose of this tutorial is to bring a nice effect without using a pixel perfect mask.

So keep in mind that you can’t copy the eye shapes and paste them into the current eye shape layer.
